TASH Inclusive Education National Research Agenda: A Call to Action and Advocacy

Abstract

In 2012, the TASH Inclusive Education Committee responded to Horner and Dunlap’s (2012)
call for future research to integrate inclusive values with strong science by launching efforts to
identify and articulate an inclusive education national research agenda. The committee heeded
recommendations to design research that addresses contexts, supports, and personal capacities of
all students, and ensures evidence-based interventions are developed, implemented, and sustained in inclusive settings. Three questions guided the qualitative inquiry: (a) What is the
state of IE research? (b) What research still must be done? and (c) What are recommendations for a TASH national IE research agenda? Findings include 18 focus areas within 3 domains advocating for research across systems, buildings and classrooms, and student learning.
