The purpose of this study is to offer a different perspective for school improvement. Much of the current leadership practices for school improvement focus on linear or specific approaches in defined contexts. However, this leadership study highlights the challenges associated with maneuvering through all three levels in an effort to achieve successful reform outcomes that honor the struggle for school improvement in a large urban high school community. Specifically, we will use the three strands to explicate the different level of analysis (i.e., personal, organization, and socio-cultural) and seek to understand the complexities of school improvement.
