Researching Race and Ethnicity in the Study of Motivation in Educational Contexts

Abstract

The racial demographics of the United States are rapidly changing. This increase undoubtedly means that race and ethnicity will play an increasingly important role in educational contexts. As such, research related to the roles that race and ethnicity play in motivational processes are needed. Our aim for this symposium is to present the work of key researchers who use race-focused constructs while investigating motivation in educational contexts. The aim of this symposium is to discuss and analyze the roles that race and ethnicity play in students and teachers motivation within educational contexts. This symposium will also include innovative approaches that will push the methodological boundaries and propose new ways of researching motivation related to race and ethnicity in educational contexts.
