Dialogue about educational equity and excellence is essential for transformative inquiries within schools, neighborhoods, and communities. Equity has been defined as providing quality education and learning opportunities for students of different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, while excellence is about outstanding performance and specialist skills for societal benefit. The XXX project was a longitudinal research and development project (2005-2015) conducted across 39 high schools in New Zealand. It was designed to improve both equity and excellence outcomes for Indigenous Maori, Pacific Island and other students from high poverty communities, by partnering with school communities to better prepare students for degree-level study. Major findings about this work are presented, along with specific recommendations for public scholarship on these issues.
