Session Type: Symposium
In this symposium we share findings from a series of studies that examine bridging the equity gap in opportunities to cultivate digital and technological literacies among underserved youth. Previous research has found that there is no uniform solution to bridging the digital divide or closing the equity gap in education, due to the compounding factors that are involved. The research described engages underserved youth in digital media, technology, and civic engagement through designed experiences as a way to create more equitable educational opportunities. Across these settings we explore how experiential learning can bridge these gaps in opportunity. The participants will discuss the successes, shortcomings, and next steps for their research, and create an atmosphere of discussion with the audience.
