Session Type: Symposium
This session is focused on Peter McLaren’s work reproduced in his new reader, This Fist Called My Heart: The Peter McLaren Reader. His vast body of scholarship includes many contributions to critical pedagogy through an engagement with a wide array of theoretical frameworks and diverse epistemologies, from revolutionary multiculturalism, postmodernism, and cultural studies to Marxism. While his diverse body of work offers many important insights into the nature of education and progressive avenues to enact critical pedagogies, McLaren’s scholarship is also developmental. That is, his research not only advances multiple approaches to critical pedagogy, it does this because McLaren has developed his ideas over time. This session therefore highlights both of these interrelated aspects of McLaren’s work.
