Session Type: Symposium
This symposium considers the role of social capital in initial teacher education by applying social network theory to understand the development of resource sharing networks among pre-service teachers in 3 different national contexts (USA, Spain and England). The nature of networks for resources such as advice-seeking, support and sharing materials will be compared and contrasted within and between each context, as well as how such networks are developed and maintained over time. We also examine how qualities of these networks are associated with other attributes of pre-service teachers such as their self-efficacy, views on support and trust. Implications of the research for the development of initial teacher education programs and related policy will be considered.
