Session Submission Summary

The Roles of Value and Interest in Promoting Learning

Sat, April 9, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 206

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium provides a forum for considering present understanding about how, whether, and for whom adding “value” works as an aid in school performance and in creating or developing interest. Presenters will a) overview their research questions and key findings, providing definitions and explanation of how they have conceptualized the role of value in the interventions that they study; (b) address the theoretical links between value, interest and learning; (c) consider the implications of findings to date for theorizing value and interest, and for practice, and (d) identify what still needs to be addressed. Open questions identified by the discussants will provide the basis of discussion among the discussants, presenters, and the audience.
