Session Type: Symposium
This symposium presents the findings of three qualitative and quantitative studies investigating the perceptions, pre-conceived notions, and behaviors of non-minority institutional members in urban and suburban schools in Southern California. These studies include a discussion of: 1) talent management role in the development of diversity amongst K-12 organizational members in order to further the democratic process, 2) African American teachers professional experiences with and perceptions of racial micro aggression when interacting with non-minority members of their organization, 3) non-minority teachers beliefs and perceptions of academic deficiencies and inequalities of low-income, at-risk, minority students at alternative education schools.
