Session Type: Symposium
Frameworks for the evaluation and/or development of teaching have become increasingly important in efforts to improve schooling. This panel assembles leading international scholars on teaching and teacher education to provide conceptual clarification and explore some of the tensions inherent in using frameworks to improve teaching. It thus brings an important comparative dimension to the sometimes parochial debates within particular countries. Drawing on powerful empirical evidence, the diverse papers rigorously demonstrate ways of using particular frameworks to improve teaching or teacher education, with compelling results. This symposium will inform policy debates as well as the design of teacher education and teacher development initiatives in ways that significantly improve teaching, with potentially profound consequences for student outcomes.
