Session Type: Working Group Roundtable
Pedagogy has increasingly moved to online classrooms since the start of the 21st century, yet assessments have remained largely in the traditional realm of the term paper. Online learning allows for the flexibility to create an atmosphere where students construct knowledge and create products with the use of web-based tools and new media. Authentic assessment a “form of assessment in which students are asked to perform real-world tasks that demonstrate meaningful application of essential knowledge and skills” (J. Mueller, 2011) provide students with the opportunity to reflect on learning, engage in peer interaction and receive continuous instructor feedback. This roundtable session will bring together an international panel of online instructors to share research and best practices for using authentic assessments.
