Educators' Use of Research and Other Evidence as Part of Foundation Grant Proposals

Sat, April 9, 8:15 to 9:45am, Marriott Marquis, Floor: Level Four, Independence Salon F

Abstract

In this study, educators’ written requests for foundation grant funding toward the purchase of desired educational materials or services were examined. Specifically, this study sought to examine to what extent, and in what manner, educators utilize research and other forms of evidence to support their decision-making. Data analysis revealed several themes. Although educators were unlikely to refer to research studies, they demonstrated particular focus toward fitness to context—including local and broader policy—and upon ways to motivate and engage students. This study illuminates the types of research that will be most useful to practitioners, and suggests some means by which educators and researchers may partner.
