Session Type: Symposium
Across the nation, we observe that achievement gaps exist between males and females in mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA). This symposium brings together three papers that expand the understanding of differences in gender achievement in the United States and propose potential explanations for these gaps in gender performance. Together, the papers have two overarching goals. First, to better understand gender achievement gaps in elementary and middle school across the United States, characterizing patterns in the geographic variation of the gaps and how they change over time. And, second, to explore factors associated with different patterns in the gaps in order to provide a foundation for future research.
