Understanding the Graduate Students' Perspectives on Global-Mindedness in an Education Abroad Experience

Mon, April 11, 2:45 to 4:15pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

This mixed methods study sought to determine graduate students' perspectives of their own global-mindedness as part of an education abroad experience. The theory of global-mindedness (Hett, 1993) was the framework for this study and provided the five dimensions examined. The Hett Global-mindedness Scale was administered one week prior and two weeks following the experience. The participants then submitted two photographs they took during the education abroad experience that they felt reflected their experience(s) during the program. The photograph(s) were submitted with narratives describing why and how the picture encapsulated their education abroad experience. Data was Collected and analyzed separately, then compared for similarities and differences for significant findings and themes. Detailed results of the findings will be presented at the conference.
