Application of Rasch Measurement Theory to Assess Career Aspiration Scale

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to use Rasch analysis in order to make a psychometric evaluation of the career aspiration scale (CAS) in a sample of Korean female college students (N = 394). The CAS is composed of 10 items on a 5-point Likert-type scale, 4 of which are reverse-scoring items (3, 4, 7, and 10). Major findings are as follows: (1) a parallel test shows that the CAS consists of a single factor, unlike prior studies that suggested a two-factor structure of the instrument. (2) most of the items of the CAS did not successfully distinguish between response categories 2 and 3. (3) Item 3 shows extreme difficulty and untrustworthy internal reliability.
