Previous studies of commercial trainees' sustainable economic performance on workplaces indicated significant relationship between intended behavior and knowledge about sustainability, attitudes, subjective norms, motivation, school degree and migration background. These variables are limited however, in their explanation of the development process of competencies. In educational research various learning contexts are considered, which relate to informal learning processes rather than formal ones. However, different operationalization aggravate the measurement of the influence of learning opportunities. Therefore it is challenging to work out an evidence-based relationship between formal, informal learning opportunities, individual antecedents and learning achievements toward sustainability. The aim of this paper is to shed light on the influence of specific learning contexts of apprenticeships in the commercial sector toward sustainability.
