Preparing Leaders to Engage Complex Social Systems: Where Do We Stand?

Mon, April 11, 7:45 to 9:15am, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 209 C

Abstract

This study explores whether and how innovative leadership preparation programs address the importance of school leaders building trust and social capital. Program leaders and directors were interviewed to explore how programs define trust and social capital as program goals, operationalize them into curricula, and assess student progress around the constructs. Preliminary findings indicate that programs place a high value on the importance of the trust and social capital for effective leaders, but few have found effective ways to concretely situate them into core curriculum. May programs focus on experienced based learning and post program training and support.
