Exploring Students' Intentional Learning to Reflect on Teaching Quality

Mon, April 11, 10:00 to 11:30am, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

This project seeks to describe student intentional learning not in the abstract or as a purely theoretical definition but rather ground it in the everyday practices of school teaching. It examines how students intentionally interact with and respond to the learning opportunities presented to them by their teachers. The study utilized design based implementation research to revise and refine a modified version of Danielson's (2013) observation protocol to meet the needs and realities of practicing teachers. The development of such an instrument allows both teachers and teacher educators to develop shared language to reflect on practice and assist in the design and implementation of intentional learning experiences for students.
