This presentation is about how democratic citizenship can be understood as a form of governmentality to inscribe norms, needs, and hopes to vulnerable youth to fulfil their potential as humans. I interrogate that democratic citizenship in schools is the solution to political problems in society. Rather than to solve political problems, I argue it is a strategy of government. I propose that democratic citizenship actually contributes to what is possible to think, say, perform, and be democratically. An analysis of the ways in which democratic ideal of living together has been translated into the Spanish context will reveal the links between democratic citizenship and the constitution of identities that mobilize autonomy and responsibility through a disciplinary order that it establishes.
