Sat, April 29, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

The intersection of leadership and policy was examined through teachers’ beliefs about whether communication with parents is important to student academic success. The teacher perceptions were compared to principals’ beliefs, as well as student achievement and demographic factors. Secondary educators in four school boards were surveyed. Hierarchical linear modeling was used for analysis with individual teacher responses as the first level, nested within principal responses and school data at the second level. This research was designed to identify which factors influenced the perceptions of educators, including policy, personal and community attributes. Initial analysis has found that teachers’ do believe that communication with parents is important and that the beliefs of the principal have a positive impact.
