This study investigated the factors that contributed to the academic success of 47 Latino students at elite colleges. The family emerged as an important influence on the education of Latino youth. Parents were cited as a significant factor in the academic success of students. Although parents often were unable to provide specific college information, they were found to play a major role in supporting and encouraging the academic success of students. In addition, for some students; college educated siblings and other family members were able to provide specific college information. Implications for policy and practice were discussed.
