The present study used the Rasch rating scale model to examine and reassess the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Rosenberg self-esteem scale (RSES) among 501 Grade 10 students in Taiwan. Results showed that after eliminating two misfit items, the remaining 8-item RSES had acceptable outfit statistics and strong reliability for this sample. In addition, convergent validity of the RSES was supported by positive correlations with psychological being, a sub-domain of quality of life profile. The study revealed that the 8-item RSES has good content coverage, strong reliability, and is appropriately valid as a measure of self-esteem for Taiwan Grade 10 students. Recommendations include modifying the translation of two misfit items and developing additional items of higher difficulty.
