The purpose of this paper is to report on the iterative work to revise and test a leadership instrument, called the Community Equity Literacy Leadership Assessment (CELLA), to measure school leaders’ knowledge and skills in working for equity across school-community contexts (or what we refer to as Community Equity Literacy). This iterative work aims to validate and test the reliability of the CELLA through several studies: a sorting study, cognitive interviews and expert panel surveys, and a pilot survey. We describe the results and implications of each study to further inform the instrument.
