Abstract

The transition from face-to-face teaching to online facilitation requires special skills and an additional lens through which most traditional classroom educators view students, student engagement, assessment and evaluation, based on their own philosophy of teaching and initial teacher preparation program. This paper focuses on five major challenges faced by online facilitators as they make the transition from F2F to online; time management, inadequate student participation, technological issues, anxiety and uncertainty, identifying, defining and carrying transferable skills. It is hoped that data gathered, through this research, will shed some light on some of the best practices that are providing online facilitators with effective opportunities and avenues for growth and development.
