Increasing STEM baccalaureate degree productivity is a national priority, with federal and private foundations engaged in helping institutions accelerate change to augment and diversify the STEM research workforce. Using case study data from selected institutions with relatively high efficiency scores in STEM degree productivity (identified using stochastic frontier analysis), we identify key strategies change agents employ that contribute to their exemplar status. The study addresses how strategies are organizationally integrated, the nature of norms and processes, and the role of key change agents in the implementation of strategies at multiple organizational levels to begin to explain high STEM baccalaureate degree productivity.
