This study investigates the impact of individual and non-individual characteristics on the performance of physician assistants on the Physician Assistant National Recertifying Exam (PANRE). The performance measures are placed on the same scale with the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE) through Rasch anchoring techniques and analyzed using a two-level linear model. The results show that the knowledge degradation of physician assistants with age depends on their specialties. In addition, the impact of years since initial training on recertifying performance varies among practice settings.
