Fri, April 28, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 216 A

Abstract

This study explores principals and schools in the context of south central Texas, with direct implications for the preparation of principals in this geographical region. This research used a multi-perspective qualitative case study design observing 3 urban schools asking: How do leaders build individual and organizational capacity in high-needs schools? Implications for this study extends the knowledge gathered from these principals into application of this knowledge to one university’s preparation program in the same region. Findings include the recognition of educational structures conducive to learning, intentional relationship focus, collective effort toward adapting structures and policies, and the development of a learning culture as applied to courses to prepare future principals.
