Teacher Educator Identity Development: Emotional Enactment and Engagement in Preparing Teachers for Diverse Students

Abstract

This paper explores the identity development of novice teacher educators working to prepare teacher candidates for student diversity. Specifically, this work explores the significance and influence of emotions and emotional labor on such identity development. The paper presents findings from a year-long case study analyzing the identity development of teacher educators acting within PLC contexts within a University teacher education program. This paper will have implications for how we, as a field of teacher education, continue to evolve our understandings and approaches toward supporting teacher educator identity development as a necessary means of teacher preparation for student diversity.
