Leveraging California Educators' Expertise to Build Leadership Capacity and Institutional Partnerships

Thu, April 27, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

This study examines how an educational leadership corps comprised of 284 accomplished classroom teachers and site leaders reflecting the demographics of California’s public school students is growing instructional capacity in diverse local communities. To improve opportunities and outcomes for students, the project develops partnerships among key educational stakeholders and leverages educators’ expertise to design and facilitate ongoing, meaningful professional development (PD). The project has provided PD to over 39,000 educators in 356 school districts in its first two years. Multiple data sources illustrate the impact of participation on teachers’ leadership development and on district leaders to design innovative, recursive, and continuous educator-led programs for PD.
