This study aims to document and analyze unique STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning contributions that a creative summer program makes to urban youth of color. This paper focuses on the survey analysis of youth participants who reveal how they understand and deal with ongoing frustration and perceived failure that are often inevitable in STEM learning process. By dividing survey participants into two groups based on their level of confidence in solving challenging problems, this survey unpacks their beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors to overcome such learning experience. Emerging findings indicate that they have improved their understanding of perceived failure as constructive learning opportunities, developed personal learning strategies, and improved their confidence in taking risks in a supportive learning community.
