Principal Support of Teacher Psychological Needs: A Framework to Explore Effective Leadership Conversations

Abstract

This paper advances Principal Support of Teacher Psychological Needs (PSTPN), a type of intentional leadership conversation that activates the inner determination of teachers to excel. The purpose of this study is to establish the foundation for a line of inquiry around PSTPN by (1) describing the role of conversation as a core and defining component of leadership, (2) conceptualizing PSTPN, and (3) testing the relationship with conditions that facilitate school improvement.
