What happens to ethnographic research in education when one incorporates an unconventional method and analytic process such as making comics? In this paper, I show what
happened in my research when I shifted my way of doing ethnographic interviews toward the constraints of comics making. I include examples from my ethnographic work of a graduate course called DrawBridge while drawing upon Taussig’s notion of witness in I Swear I Saw This (2011). I examine how the process of making comics emphasized motion, emotion, and sensorimotor feelings as well as what was lost in translation during my interviews.
