This literature-based conceptual analysis examines evolving perspectives on disability within the field of adult education. First, it looks at perspectives on disability that have historically been reflected in the literature on adult literacy and adult education. Next, it acquaints the reader with cultural and social perspectives on disability that have emerged within the interdisciplinary field of disability studies, and how these have influenced recent work within adult and lifelong education. Finally, it proposes a more comprehensive framework for considering disability within adult education that integrates elements of psychological, sociocultural, and critical perspectives
