Session Type: Symposium
Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) have produced an oversized proportion of the teachers of color in the United States. However, their contributions to teacher education extend far beyond racial demographics. The papers in this session outline how MSI teacher education programs have grown longstanding connections to their surrounding communities, confronted pressing challenges like the changing battery of licensure exams, and infused social justice frameworks into their programs. Together, these papers illustrate the ways that MSI teacher education programs have successfully responded to some of the challenges and trends that are now, more recently, starting to affect Predominately White Institutions.
