Session Type: Symposium
As a flourishing field, teacher motivation has evolved from early studies identifying initial motivations for teaching to studies examining the implications of these motivations for professional commitment and recently to research on more diverse topics, notably related to the antecedents or sources of motivations and to the effect of motivations on teaching and learning processes. The symposium features four examples of current research on teacher motivation that illustrate the antecedents (family background, specific training) and consequences (on student teachers’ psychological functioning, instructional practices, and beliefs) of teacher motivation. The symposium’s participants use diverse international samples, strong conceptual frameworks, and contemporary analytical approaches to advance the field of research on teacher motivation.
