Session Summary

42.045 - As Goes Texas: Knowledge to Action Toward Educational Equity in the Lone Star State

Sat, April 29, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: River Level, Room 6B

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

“As goes Texas, so goes the nation” is a call for researchers and practitioners to focus on policy and research emanating from the second most populous state. Issues of immigration, college access and success, affordability, and the challenge of crafting educationally equitable experiences for an increasingly diverse, historically underserved population shape the higher education landscape in Texas. Furthermore, demography and political streams coursing through Texas ensure that policy and procedures are often transmitted to other states and regions. This interactive symposium focuses on how researchers in the state leverage local and national networks to foster a scholar/practitioner community that serves students, faculty/staff, and community – while simultaneously advancing calls for educational equity to policymakers and the research community across the U.S.
