Abstract

Educational inequalities are of great interest for researchers since national as well as international studies have shown repeatedly that school systems do not offer equal educational opportunities for all students. Therefore, this symposium will allow scientific exchange and discussion to investigate the crucial question of conditions and consequences of educational inequalities. The symposium integrates five different but interrelated foci: The international comparison perspective (first talk), the family as a condition for success at school (second talk), the impact of race and socio-economic status (third talk), teachers as contextual factors (fourth talk), and the role of educational reforms and their goals to decrease educational inequalities (fifth talk). A discussant will bring the perspectives together and critically reflect all contributions.
