Session Type: Symposium
This symposium reports upon new research illustrating how Ontario, Canada is transitioning from a previous provincial focus on very specific academic goals in an age of achievement to a broader agenda of student engagement, identity, and well-being. Interviews and focus group studies with over 120 educators in 10 school districts pinpoint the emergence of promising new practices even as residual pedagogies, curricula, and assessments persist, and in some ways distract from a more inclusive and culturally responsive agenda. The 4 papers document the rise of a coherent and compelling new approach to educational change of potentially great significance given Ontario’s established pre-eminence as a global change leader in regard to student achievement and equity.
