Session Type: Symposium
This symposium forefronts the efforts of researchers from across the U.S. (Massachusetts, New York, Texas) engaged in participatory action research (PAR). Papers in this symposium draw from researchers actively engaging communities in PAR in schools and communities as they work towards personal and social transformation. Utilizing theoretical frameworks such as critical pedagogy, third space and hybridity, feminist theories, and critical race theory these papers explore the theoretical and practical impacts that their work has on raising critical consciousness, civic engagement, researcher positionality, and the agency of youth researchers. The research in this symposium will bring to light what is possible when researchers engage in authentic collaborative research with the intent of addressing larger systemic issues.
