Session Type: Symposium
The presentations in this symposium highlight four distinct studies of deeper learning. The first presentation examines school features that are positively related to the provision of deeper learning opportunities (e.g., opportunities to collaborate, opportunities for self-directed learning). The second presentation looks at how deeper learning opportunities are associated with deeper learning competencies (e.g., self-efficacy, communication skills, complex problem-solving) and high school graduation. The third presentation provides evidence that students who attend schools that promote deeper learning have better postsecondary outcomes than similar students who attend other schools. The fourth presentation digs deeper into the effects of attending schools focused on deeper learning to see whether effects on various outcomes are equitable across student subgroups.
