Session Type: Symposium
The adoption of competency-based education in the professions has underscored the importance of developing and measuring a wide range of skills in our learners, including communication, professionalism and teamwork. These behavioral, or non-cognitive, skills and attributes are not easily measured using traditional grading methods. Development of robust assessment methods for these domains is still ongoing. This symposium explores various methods professional schools use to assess behavioral competencies. Each presentation will describe the method of assessment, outcomes, and lessons learned. At the closing of the session, a discussant will offer remarks and facilitate a discussion about the merits and challenges of various approaches to assessing behavioral competence.
