Session Type: Symposium
Presenters in this session use the alternative presentation format of the book review to critically engage João Parakeva’s Conflicts in Curriculum Theory. Clarifying Paraskeva’s conceptual contributions to the field of curriculum, Presenters 1 and 2 provide discussions of Paraskeva’s ideas including itinerant curriculum theory (ICT), curriculum epistemicides, abyssal thinking, and ecologies of knowledge. Presenters 3, 4, and 5 all provide discussions as to how Paraskeva’s ICT informs their praxis as public school teachers, instructors of bilingual and multicultural education, and education administrators. Overall, Presenters’ book reviews, each organized around that format of the review, allow for an alternative type of presentation that does justice to the SIG on Critical Issues in Cultural and Curriculum Studies.
