Session Type: Symposium
Abstract
Have you ever wondered what a learning community focused on supporting teachers of English language learners (ELLs) to become confident innovators of practice would be like? This symposium brings together four research sessions to share what presenters have found during a five-year Quality Teachers for English Learners (QTEL) grant journey. Presenters will discuss the arc of learning by the QTEL team regarding the structure of professional development sessions (PDs) by challenging their Linguistically and Culturally Responsive Teaching (LCRT) within their pedagogical landscapes, facing teachers’ monolingual and monocultural racial attitudes intersected with attitudes towards accent, and juxtaposing university theory-based Linguistically and Culturally Responsive Mathematics Teaching (LCRMT) training against mathematics teaching in classrooms with ELLs.
