Session Type: Symposium
The papers in this session bring together researchers working in out-of-school time learning environments and family settings to explore the following questions: What are pedagogies of joy? How do we explore the role joy plays in lifelong learning for youth and adult participants? In this session we turn our attention to joy as an underused word in academic presentations or papers about the experiences of youth and adult participants in learning environments. This session explores the ways that joy, creativity, and play are foundational to human development and intersect with disciplinary learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) designed learning environments. A focus on joyful learning can help us work towards achieving the promise of equal educational opportunity.
