Session Summary

72.039 - Queeruptions: Queer of Color Analysis as a Basis for Radical Action and Education Reform

Mon, May 1, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Grand Hyatt San Antonio, Floor: Fourth Floor, Crockett C

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

The six papers in this symposium document and describe “queeruptions” defined as spaces to exchange information, network, organize, inspire and get inspired, self-represent, and challenge mainstream society based on queer of color epistemologies. From “mundane and quotidian” acts of resistance and noncompliance to postsecondary programs to support queer students of color, ‘zines, and networked technologies, the scholars in symposium illustrate the significance of queer of color analysis for curriculum, policy and programs for gender and sexuality minorities in formal, non-formal and informal spaces of education.
