Session Type: Symposium
This symposium will discuss the ways in which children's agency has decreased in many parts of the U.S., particularly for marginalized communities in school. Panel members bring teacher, administrator, teacher educator and parent perspectives from a range of communities to talk about how institutional control of young children is related to discrimination and equity. Using a wide range of experience in multiple communities, diverse theoretical positionings and some video examples, the panel intends to engage with the critical early childhood community about ways in which to work towards more equitable early learning experiences that see young children as sophisticated and that value their families and communities.
