Session Type: Roundtable Session
Internationally, the role of public education in advancing student’s non-academic skills such as creativity and social emotional learning has been increasingly emphasized by diverse stakeholders in government, health, education, and business. Although advocates in the field have generated momentum, this movement has not taken root comprehensively in school culture, policy and practice. This session compares two school system change projects with the goal of advancing student wellbeing. Measuring What Matters, represents a sector partnership in Ontario, Canada that focuses on defining and measuring broad areas of student success across the system. WellAhead, the second project, in British Columbia, Canada collaboratively develops, tests, and iterates approaches of social and emotional wellbeing into school culture, policy, and practice.
