Session Type: Symposium
Teacher noticing has been a topic of interest in teacher education however there are still very few studies that look at noticing to support equitable teaching practices. The aim of the symposium will be to build on this early work to explore the nature and substance of noticing for equitable teaching and to examine ways to support teacher learning of equitable teaching practices. The first paper explores preservice teachers’ ideas of equitable teaching, using a noticing framework. The second two papers look at ways teachers nominated by district leaders as exceptional equitable teachers notice and frame classroom interactions. The fourth paper explores issues of equity that arise in secondary preservice teachers’ discussions focused on mathematical content.
