Session Type: Symposium
In a holistic sense, educating for change necessarily entails a critical analysis of contexts both in- and outside of school. In an age where increasingly frequent reports of racialized violence are broadcast into homes via mainstream media, this panel engages in an exploration of the roles that parents, community members, and educators play in raising critical awareness through dialogue about racial inequality, all through an intersectional Critical Race Parenting lens. More specifically, this panel engages in the particular challenges embedded in approaching such issues in white, Black, and biracial contexts. Furthermore, there will be consideration given to the symbiotic relationship between the kinds of racial education children receive in formal and informal settings, along with implications for racially-just educators.
