Session Type: Workshop
Institutes of higher education (IHE) lack the appropriate support to meet the varied needs to mentor diverse faculty. Researchers have shown the importance of mentoring networks to support minority faculty in their academic career goals as well as advancement toward tenure, promotion, and leadership as faculty in higher education. It is essential for minority faculty to seek out opportunities for informal mentoring and to develop a network of support. This workshop will provide the opportunity to establish the framework of the mentorship network. During the interactions, facilitators will provide suggestions on how to manage time, enhance professionally, and meet responsibilities and obligations to IHEs. Facilitators will suggest strategies towards career trajectories such as promotion, tenure, and leadership.
